Miskomprenis is like a self-portrait that reflects my personal rootless experience. The protagonist tries to express herself in the three languages that characterize me – Spanish, English and Italian. The three tongue/languages are intertwined, and at certain times, they charge more prominence than the other two, playing with the sound (in Spanish the word “language” is used for both tongue and language, so it’s used as a word game). This work represents a desperate attempt to adapt to the country of adoption. The communication is quite disturbing, showing the terrible difficulty in finding exasperated be understood, without being able to break the barrier between the migrant and the viewer. It reflects the difficulty of establishing links with the surrounding world or try to establish communication with the locals. “Miskomprenis” in Esperanto means ‘Misunderstood’.
