Exilios

videoart (2010)

The audiovisual work Exilios is part of the art project Exilios: Entre fuga y origen. The piece talks about the loss of meaning in a complex mode of inhabiting, where the boundaries between the familiar and the strange are blurred, producing abandonment, alienation and ambiguity, which represent the conflict in our postmodern notion of the place. It creates a strange and ghostly, at the same time disturbing scenario, moving the viewer to a real space, to later transport it to a non-reality drawn, provoked by the alienation of the subject and its non-permanence to any place.
As a metaphor and starting point the city has been used as a complex cultural phenomenon and a poetic way of viewing space as a container of memory.
In that sense, a particular interaction with the urban environment has been represented. In the play, the city is perceived as a threatening area, extracted from a nightmare, a place sometimes alien and hostile, where the character unprotected in its nakedness, seeks and reveals a new sense of urban space, while is configured by it.
The protagonist is an alienated being who lives exile dramatically, the contrast between the intimate and private world itself and the city… in a useless attempt to get the urban environment, to integrate into it. In her dream / nightmare, she tries to familiarize herself, to appropriate herself, to integrate herself in space, to make her “home”, so as not to feel that alienation and emptiness, even knowing from the beginning that this attempt will always be directed to the shipwreck.
A floating universe has been created, situated in a place of dreams in which nakedness and the strange and dreamy environment do not endow the character with a fixed identity, thus drawing a universal image of the human being, placed in a timelessness. Everything takes on a ghostly air, becoming an unreality with which the things and the people that surround us are perceived…
